In 2014, due to unfavorable hydrological conditions that affected the electricity supply, ONS has strengthened its institutional relationship with the society to keep it permanently informed of the most relevant issues related to the operation of the BIPS.

In the Monitoring Committee of the Electricity Sector the collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency allowed viable solutions to ensure the security of the electricity supply at the lowest cost.

The industry associations were also focus of ONS`s relationship actions. Lectures were held in Embrace, Abraget, Infrastructure Council of CNI, Conselho Nacional de Recursos Hídricos (Brazilian Council of Water Resources -, Cogen and Fiesp - to present the results of studies carried out by the Operator. One of the main forums for the relationship with the associations was the 11th National Meeting of Agents of the Electricity Sector, held in May, an important industry event in which ONS was present.

The operator took part, in 2014, of other events that strengthened the relationship with specific segments of the external public:

Due to the large interest of society, aroused by the energy supply conditions resulting from the shortage of water resources, there was an intense relationship with the media in that year, both through interviews with the General Director of ONS, as with the explanations given by staff communication. There was a total of 2386 articles published in print in 2014, with a percentage of ONS`s favorable exposure of 86.4% ONS website remained an important tool for dissemination of technical activities and relationship with the internet users.

The Institutional Visitation Program enabled students, technicians of the sector and other domestic and foreign visitors to know more about ONS`s activities in the BIPS centralized operation. Visitors from the International Olympic Committee and representatives of the Southern African Power Pool were received at the Central Office. In the Brazilian Center for System Operation, in Brasília, 22 visits were conducted, with 454 visitors, of a very diversified public. In Centro Regional de Operação Sudeste - Southeast Regional Operation Center -, in Rio de Janeiro, there were 25 technical visits, totaling 227 visitors. In Florianopolis, there were 13 technical visits in the year, with about 100 visitors, and at Recife three.

The development of joint activities with CCEE and EPE  continued, as established in the respective Operating Agreements.
