In 2014, ONS continued to implement a Synchronized Measurement Phasor System (SMSF) by installing PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) in equipment and hardware infrastructure installation (Phasor Data Concentrators - PDC) and software for the acquisition and analysis of the synchrophasors in ONS dependencies.
One of 2014’s highlights was the signing of the agreement between ONS and MME under the Technical Assistance of Energy and Mineral Sectors Project (META), allowing access to resources coming from loan signed by the Union with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for the acquisition of hardware infrastructure and design software.
The project has two basic goals:
Its initial stage includes the installation of PMUs in 31 substations of the BIPS to monitor 181 transmission lines terminals, included in the Plan of Facilities Modernization (PMI) 2014-2017. This technology is an important support to the analysis of occurrences, especially large ones, contributing to the increase in BIPS security.
