In the past years, I have been using this space to leave everyone that compose ONS a message of encouragement and recognition regarding the results achieved in BIPS operation management.
In 2014, this would not be possiblewithout assigningeven more value to the supply guarantee that was achieved in the BIPS operation’s highly complex environment.
The water crisis affected especially the Northeastern and Southeastern / Midwestern regions, with inflows that made the year of 2014, respectively, the worst and the sixth worst year since 1931. In addition, theloss ofsystem reservoir regulationcapacity, the need to maintain the thermal power plants in full operation, the flexibilization of multiple use of waterconstraints and the heavy use of the transmission grid to deliver energy where consumers needed it the most. All this required a dedicated and careful management of operating conditions from ONS’s teams to achieve a successful result.
Communication wasanother challenge, bringingrealistic and reliable information on the supply conditions to society in an environment in which several voices had different interpretations of reality. The results of the processes involving the legalization of the issues associated with the easing of hydraulic constraints characterize the credibility of the Operator in clarifying these issues for the representatives of the Judiciary and were key elements so that the decisions made, took into account the best interests of society.
The Administrative Board, within the scope of its regulatory duties, participated in this integratedeffort ofONS’s technical teams, the Associated Agents, of Regulatory Agencies, the Ministry of Mines and Energy and other organizations that conduct the electricity sector, contributing to make 2014 a year marked by overcoming difficulties.
