The Move to New Facilities

The ONS initiated in 2009 the process to move its facilities in Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Florianopolis. The locations of the new facilities were chosen: the Cidade Nova neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro, the neighborhood of Santo Amaro, in Recife, and the Office Park complex in Florianopolis.

Noting the technical peculiarities of the lease agreements, companies specializing in commissioning of buildings were hired to ensure that the conditions of Descriptive Memorandum attached to contracts, designated basic supply have been met, as well as the additional items, called layette, suited to Operator needs: desks and meeting rooms, an auditorium, operation rooms, datacenter and telecommunications rooms.

During the first quarter of 2013, a communication plan containing details about what and how to move was drawn up and circulated, driven by companies specialized in logistics, especially the transfer of IT assets while minimizing risk of damage and delays.

All the planning has met the criteria for attention to continuity of services and has been conducted in at least two waves, in relation to IT Asset Control Centers: a back up was always kept at the place of origin until the functions were transferred and considered in stable operation in the new locations.

The building infrastructure has been thoroughly tested by simulating normal operation with virtual loads and contingency situation, before each move event, with the support of specialized consultants, certified to meet the requirements of USGBC - US Green Building Council, at the least contractual level at bronze level.

The start of operation in the new buildings took place on the following dates:

  • In Florianópolis, on June 3, after a pioneering experience of move made during the extended holiday of Corpus Christi
  • In Recife, on July 17, taking advantage of a local holiday to move.
  • In Rio de Janeiro, three waves of moves were made: the first involved part of the Central Office staff, on September 16; the second, on October 7, completed the move of the Central Office staff. Finally, on October 14 was the transfer of the Southeast Regional Operation Center.
