Once again, we have had a year of hard work and rewarding results, keeping the operator in the path of success that has been marking its 15 years of existence.
One of the essential factors to achieve these results was the fruitful collaboration of all institutions responsible for managing the electricity sector: the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the National Electric Energy Agency and other regulatory agencies, the Energy Research Company, the Board Commercialization of Electric Power, the State Departments of Energy, each of the 321 associated agents and the associations that represent them.
Internal integration was also a key element to face the challenges that were overcome with the ongoing dedication and personal commitment of each component of the technical staff of ONS.
Projects that prepare the system so that our mission can be performed more effectively in the future were continued in 2013. I highlight among them the analysis of the supply conditions for the host cities of the FIFA World Cup 2014; the studies and operational measures necessary to integrate the SIN of the Madeira River Complex and the transmission system associated with it; the implementation of the Network Power Management of ONS (REGER); the completion of the review and the referral to ANEEL of new versions of 143 submodules of the Grid Procedures, with the participation of agents and Associations; and the continuing work of technical groups to analyze the conditions of power supply to various states of the federation, of which participate the State Departments of Energy and Environment. In particular, it was given a different treatment for the facilities considered strategic, aiming to minimize the effects of multiple contingencies on the transmission system. All of the above are long-term projects that will bring significant benefits in the future.
As for the final activities, we faced a major challenge in the management of available resources to meet the load of energy in a year marked by unfavorable hydrological conditions and the need for high thermal dispatch. Contributed to the solution of this problem the methodological developments represented by the introduction of the mechanism of value Conditioning Risk (CVaR) in the optimization models used in planning energy operation. The integration of the state of Amazonas in July 2013 and the operative measures necessary to mitigate the risk of cuts due to load delays in the works of receptor systems have also been points of emphasis. In the system operation, the two major international events we had in 2013 - the Confederations Cup and the 2013 World Youth Journey - passed without problems, with the success of the implemented measures to provide additional level of security to the electrical operation of the SIN in the cities involved in these events.
From a corporate perspective, the highlight of the year was the move to new premises in Florianopolis, Recife and Rio de Janeiro. Built to meet the specific needs of the operator and certified to meet the requirements of US Green Building Council, the new building infrastructure was tested for normal operation and in contingency situations, to ensure continuity of services. The start of the operation of the new buildings took place in June in Florianopolis, Recife in July, and in September in Rio de Janeiro.
This change represents the realization of an old dream, to which the support of our Board of Directors was fundamental. For the colaborators of ONS, it means better working conditions, standardization of environments and a great opportunity to increase internal integration. For the organization, it represents the strengthening of corporate identity and ensures greater visibility to society.
Naturally, during the year investments in improving the technical capacity and human development were continued, valuing professionals who employ their knowledge and dedication in the performance of our institutional responsibilities, aiming at the sustainability of the organization. To each and every one I would like to thank for your contribution to the results presented here.
Finally, on behalf of the ONS Board, I thank the institutions that participate in the management of the Brazilian electric sector and the people who integrate them on the cooperation for the best solutions for society.
