The FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 was held from 15 to 30 June 2013, in the cities of Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Fortaleza, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador. In order to ensure continuity and quality of supply, ONS has adopted a series of measures to provide BIPS means to ensure the extra supply of energy in the host cities.
Preparatory actions had the participation of pre-operation, real-time and post-operation teams, as well as having involved all actors operating in the fields of interest of the host cities. Amongst the various preparatory measures are of importance: conducting of directed studies; recomposition tests, drills simulated exercises between the ONS and the agents of operation; elaboration of normative document; magnification setting and resizing ONS teams. In addition to the internal operator actions, guidance was performed to the owners and agents operating distribution facilities in the areas of influence, to ensure a system of special arrangements for operation and assisted operation locally 24 hours a day.
During the competition, specific newsletters on the aspects of continuity of supply, frequency control, load control and load behavior were issued. During the fifteen days of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 it could be verified proper load requirements attendance, frequency and voltage and patterns of BIPS, which signals the success of the set of measures adopted in a preparatory manner and also those performed in the course of the games as well as the commitment and the quality of the teams involved.
Another moment of international attention in 2013 was the World Youth Day, a Catholic event held in Rio de Janeiro from 22 to 28 July. Just as in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, actions were implemented in BIPS and, in particular, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro to provide an additional degree of safety to the electrical operation during this event.
We have also analyzed the conditions of service for specific regions in Rio de Janeiro, which demanded special attention due to the concentration of people and events, having being adopted additional security measures, allied to that of thermal dispatch interventions and programs ensured the continuous supply of power generation and the lack of registration of any interruption in the transmission or loss of system load.
The load profile observed throughout the period of World Youth Day was near the predicted and used in the operation programming and there have been no additional management measures for such demand.
