The state of Amazonas has been integrated into the BIPS in July 2013, by a transmission system at 500 kV double circuit of the same tower, with about 1,400 km long on the left bank of the Amazon river.
With the coming into operation of this interconnection was planned deactivation of much of the fuel oil thermal park Manaus. However, due to the delays in construction of 230 kV and 138 kV, the electrical system of Manaus has been integrated through a temporary setting, forcing this interconnection to operate with reduced exchanges and to keep all the thermal park under operation.
During 2014, the 230/138 kV substations of Manaus, Jorge Teixeira and Mauá 3 started operationsin the main grid, and the 138 kV distribution system with the 138 / 13.8 kV substations of Cachoeira Grande and Mutirão and the 138 / 69 kV Maua 3 transformation. These new substations increased reliability in meeting the charge, but it was not possible, in this configuration, to obtain additional gains in exchange for interconnection.
The completion of the Manaus electrical system’s integration into the BIPS is scheduled for 2015, with the entry intosectioning operation in Lechuga of the230 kV Manaus transmission line - Balbina and 138 kV CD Cachoeira Grandeline - Compensa and Compensa substation. It will then be possible to explore the limits of the interconnection exchange, in amounts close to 50% of theManaus system load, which ensures blackouts, caused by the loss of interconnection does not occur in this system. The maximum flow through the interconnection is associated with the operation of a Esquema Regional de Alívio de Carga (ERAC) (Regional Load Relief Scheme) implanted in Manaus and Macapa systems.
Additionally, among the developed actions for the Tucuruí-Macapá-Manaus Interconnection, operative measures aimed at integrating the electric Amapá system we defined, still in a draft form at this early stage, because of delays that occured during 2014 in works of the receptor systems in that área.
Pre-operational studies for the integration of Santo Antônio do Jari and Ferreira Gomeshydroelectric plants, installed in the state of Amapá,were performed, which determined the implementation of a generationshedding scheme in these plants to ensure a stable operation of the electrical island formed by them, Manaus system and / or Macapa after double contingencies in the 500 kV trunk between Tucuruí and Jurupari.
The plants of Santo Antônio do Jari and Ferreira Gomes, both located in the state of Amapá, are already operating with three and two generating units respectively, allowing Amapá to be an energy exporter to BIPS.
